Both groups will arrive at Entebbe Airport in Uganda.<\/li>\r\n<li>Yellow fever vaccination and a $50 visa are required. Ensure you obtain the visa before the trip and have proof of your return ticket.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Accommodations:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>We have an apartment near the orphanage in Uganda, and the NGO covers the cost.<\/li>\r\n<li>Volunteers are kindly requested to send $80 to HGM for the purchase and preparation of a mattress, bed sheets, pillow, and mosquito net before their arrival.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Transportation:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Local transportation expenses (vans, taxis, or motorcycle taxis) will be covered by the NGO.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Meals:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Hardy Global Mission will provide food and water during the trip. If volunteers choose to eat out or buy their own food, it will be at their own expense.<\/li>\r\n<li>Please note that we currently do not have a permanent base in Uganda, so additional sleeping materials and extra meals are not provided.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>Mission Objectives in Uganda:<\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Register and sponsor 100 children.<\/li>\r\n<li>Visit 5 different schools the children attend.<\/li>\r\n<li>Launch a campaign to complete phase 2 (kitchen\/dining hall and storage room) and start phase 3 (base house\/office for volunteers, staff, and visitors) of construction.<\/li>\r\n<li>Provide medical and dental check-ups for all children.<\/li>\r\n<li>Engage in recreational activities with the children and distribute clothing and toys.<\/li>\r\n<li>Visit nearby villages.<\/li>\r\n<li>Conduct basic training for our Uganda volunteers, including administrative, hygiene, and cultural training.<\/li>\r\n<li>Distribute hygiene products.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h5>Volunteer Costs<\/h5>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Round-trip airfare (varies by state and country).<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Visa: $50<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Mattress, bed sheets, pillow, and mosquito net: $80.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>HGM T-shirt: $10 each.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hardyglobalmissions.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/bb-plugin\/img\/pixel.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h5>Preparation Before the Trip<\/h5>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Yellow fever vaccine: Get vaccinated <em>at least 10 days before the trip<\/em> to allow time for immunity development.<\/li>\r\n<li>Visa: Ensure your passport is valid for up to 6 months after entering Uganda.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h5>Expect cultural shock; it&#8217;s a personal experience.<\/h5>\r\n<h3>Cultural Considerations:<\/h3>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Ugandans have a relaxed approach to time.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Handwashing and communal eating are common.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p><em>Always<\/em> greet before conversation; handshakes are common.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Use the right hand for gestures; avoid direct pointing.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p>Use the right hand for passing, receiving, or handshaking.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p><em>Avoid<\/em> public displays of affection between genders.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>\r\n<p><em>Ask<\/em> for permission before taking photos of locals.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>Dining Etiquette:<br \/>Ugandans are known for their generosity, and it&#8217;s important to be mindful of dining customs when visiting their homes. It can be considered impolite and awkward if you&#8217;re not offered something to eat when you visit someone. When dining, you don&#8217;t necessarily have to finish all the food on your plate; leaving a bit behind signals that you&#8217;ve had enough. If you do finish your meal, expect to be offered more without the host explicitly asking if you&#8217;d like seconds.
