Pedra, Pernambuco

Pedra is a municipality in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, situated 255 km away from Recife, the capital city. It is home to an estimated population of 22,668 inhabitants.

The local economy of Pedra thrives on commerce and agribusiness, with cassava, beans, tomatoes, corn, and cattle being the main agricultural products. However, as you venture into the rural areas of Pedra, away from the paved roads, you will encounter individuals who are isolated from society, living in extreme poverty and lacking even the most basic necessities.

The sight of mud houses, supported by dry wood, emaciated cattle, and children running barefoot in the dirt is a common occurrence. These homes lack basic amenities like kitchens and bathrooms, and access to clean water is scarce. The land is so dry that the dry grass cuts like glass. In this community, they describe themselves as "the forgotten ones," as they are overlooked by the state, government, and society at large. Children suffer from a lack of education, healthcare, and proper nutrition, and food insecurity is a daily reality.

It is in response to this challenging situation that Hardy Global Missions established its first base and initiated "The Dream Project." Through this project, we sponsor children and teach them to dream, encouraging them to envision a future where they can become whoever they aspire to be. We plant the seeds of dreams by providing them with quality education, access to books, engaging activities, and meaningful events that broaden their horizons.

As part of our commitment to the community, we have constructed the Hardy Global School, where all sponsored children attend, except for the babies. The school serves as a beacon of hope, providing a safe and nurturing environment for these children to learn, grow, and thrive.

Furthermore, we have exciting plans for our upcoming endeavor – the construction of the daycare facility. This daycare will serve as a vital resource for the community, providing a nurturing and protective environment for the sponsored babies. It will not only ensure their well-being but also create employment opportunities within the community. By caring for the babies, it will enable mothers to work and pursue their own education, empowering them to improve their lives and contribute to the community's development.
